Efferham Mckenzie 1902 - 1961

Efferham Mckenzie of Glen Australia was born in 1902 to Charles Hugh Mckenzie and Elizabeth Hurrey Mckenzie. They had siblings Mary Jane Elizabeth Mckenzie, William Henry Mckenzie, Violet Adelaide Mckenzie, Belle Mckenzie, Allan Mckenzie, Thomas Charles Mckenzie, Charles Mckenzie, and Colin Mckenzie. They married Queenie May Hargreaves, and had a child Sylvia Ann McKenzie. Efferham Mckenzie died at age 59 years old in 1961 in Glen.

In 1902, in the year that Efferham Mckenzie was born, the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!

In 1935, this person was 33 years old when on August 14, the Social Security Act was signed into law. The purpose was to "provide federal assistance to those unable to work". The law established the Social Security Administration whose primary focus was to "provide aid for the elderly, the unemployed, and children". The Act survived many Supreme Court challenges and the Administration continues until today.
