Edward Heywood 1851 - 1936

Edward Heywood was born in 1851 to Samuel Heywood and Mary Ann (Butterworth) Heywood, and had a sister Annie (Heywood) Jones. He married Louisa (Bock) Heywood, and had children Edward Heywood Jnr, Louisa Heywood, Ernestina (Heywood) Clydesdale, Mary (Heywood) McNab, Alice (Heywood) Sheridan, Samuel Henry Heywood, and Eva Williams. Edward Heywood died at age 84 years old on September 24, 1936 in Seymour, Mitchell Shire County, VIC Australia.

  • Introduction

    The Argus, Melbourne. 12th July 1930. MARRIAGES. HEYWOOD - BOCK. ( Golden Wedding.) On the 13th July, 1880, at Seymour, by the Rev. R. O. Cook, Edward, son of the late Samuel and Mary Ann Heywood, to Louisa, eldest daughter of the late Henry and Eliza Bock, of Graytown and Avenel. ( Present address Rosehill, Seymour.) The Age, Melbourne. 25th September. 1936. ----SEYMOUR'S OLDEST PIONEER.-- Mr. Edward Heywood, J.P., aged 85 years, died yesterday at his home, Seymour. He was the last of the district's pioneers. He arrived in Victoria from Somerset (England) with his father in the sailing ship Red Jacket in 1857. A few years of his early life were spent on the Tarnagulla and Ballarat gold fields, and later he carried merchandise to the Graytown diggings from Melbourne. In 1872 he went to Seymour, and selected land at Glenaroua. He retired 20 years ago and made his home in Seymour. For a considerable period he was a councillor of the Pyalong shire, and was president on several occasions. He was one of the foundation members of the Seymour Agricultural Society, was president several times, and treasurer for 25 years. He was also a commissioner of the Seymour Water Trust for 20 years. His wife, two sons and five daughters survive him.
