    Edward Francis Kaleel was born on June 1, 1916 in Torrington, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA to parents Solomon Kalil (1876-1947) and Louisa Namy (1880-1959). He had siblings Charles Samuel Kaleel (1899-1962), William Kaleel (1902-), Delia Kaleel (1909-1998), Luke Robert Kaleel (1913-1993), George Henry Kaleel (1914-1966), and Martha Louise Kaleel (1920-1992). At the time of his registration for the WWII draft, he was 24 years old and residing in De Land, Volusia, Florida. He was employed as a student at the time and later enlisted in the US Army on August 9, 1941, at Camp Blanding Florida, as a Private in the Selectees (enlisted men) branch. Edward served in the Army during World War II and was discharged on October 7, 1945, after four years of service. On May 31, 1943 in Hillsborough, Florida, he married Margaret Moore Foy. The couple lived in Saint Petersburg, FL.
