Ebert M Grimes was born on May 31st, 1922 in Alton, Illinois to Manley Ebert Grimes (1896 - 1983) and Mabel MacCracken Todd (1896 - 1966). He was survived by his sister, Normal, and predeceased by a sister, Wilma, and a brother, Donna. Ebert Grimes married Mary E. Straub (1932 - 2012) on April 27th, 1951. They were married for 55 years, until Ebert died, and they had children Jennifer, Angela, Sara, and Jeffrey. He was survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. East Alton: Elbert M Grimes, 84, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2006 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 31, 1922 to Manley and Mabel MacCracken Todd. (This is error as father was Manley Elbert Grimes). He married his wife of 55 years, the former Mary E.Straub, on April 27, 1951, in Wood River. She survives. He served as a staff sergeant in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific area. He retired from the East Alton Police Department after 20 years of service and from the security department of Principia with over 15 years of service. He enjoyed fishing when physically able, playing a lively game of pinochle and a game of Mexican dominoes. He was a member of the East Alton P.B. and P.A.78, Madison County Police Association and the First Baptist Church of East Alton. In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother-in-law, Gladys Straub of Jerseyville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer L.Dale of Collinisville, Angela L.Grimes of East Alton and Sara M.and Eric Barth of Oak Grove, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey L.and Jo Helen Grimes of Woodriver; seven grandchildren, Kandace Dale and her partner, Brian, Nicholas Grimes and his partner Nicole, David Dale, Shawn and Lynn, Robbie Dale, Samantha Barth, Tara Barth; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Destanee, Alexandria and Kharma; one sister Normal Balster of Sun City, Calif; and two brothers-in-law, Len Straub and his wife Donna of Jerseyville and Robert D Straub of Virginia Beach, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah J.Snodgrass; his father-in-law, Robert H. "Bob"Straub; a sister Wilma Young; and a brother Donald Grimes. There will be no visitation. At his request, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be made to the East Alton P.B.and P.A.78, the First Baptist Church of East Alton or a charity of one's choice. - Alton Evening Telegraph Oct 15, 2006.

I’d like to know where he is buried at. So I may put flowers on his grave. I worked with Ebert at the Police Department and had the upmost respect for him. We even went fishing together.
