Dysey Dicey Cobb was born in 1788 to William Cobb and Mary Polly Abernathy, and had siblings Ambrosia Cobb, Shadrick Cobb, Starling Cobb, Walter B Cobb, Jane Cobb, Sally Cobb, Stephen Cobb, Phillip B Cobb, Mary Polly Cobb, and Copa Cobb. Dysey Cobb died at age 67 years old in 1855.

In 1809, by the time this person was 21 years old, on May 5th, Mary Dixon Kies (March 21, 1752 – 1837) became the first recipient of a patent granted to a woman by the United States. She had developed a technique for weaving straw with silk and thread to make hats. While her hats were popular at first, fashion changed and she died penniless.

In 1811, when this person was 23 years old, on July 9th, British explorer, surveyor, and fur trader David Thompson posted a notice at the junction of the Columbia River and the Snake River - in modern-day Washington- claiming the area for the United Kingdom and stating the intention of the North West Company to build a trading post there. The trading post was built several years later.
