Drucilla Sandoval 1938 - 2010

Drucilla (Jaramillo) Sandoval of Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, NM was born on May 5, 1938 to Drucilla Jaramillo and Joe L. Jaramillo. Drucilla Sandoval had siblings Earl Jaramillo, Arthur Jaramillo, and Joseph Jaramillo Jr.. She married Stewart Atkinson in 1958 and they later divorced. They had children Monica Yvette Atkinson, Kenneth Michael Atkinson, and Denise Marie Atkinson. She would also marry Jose De Jesus Sandoval in 1989 and they later separated. Drucilla Sandoval died at age 71 years old on March 21, 2010 in Santa Fe.

In 1938, in the year that Drucilla Sandoval was born, on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."
