    Dalton Edward McFarland was born September 23, 1919 in New Brunswick, Nebraska to Clementine L. and Edward N. Dalton. He had one younger brother, Robert K. McFarland. Dalton enlisted in the Navy during World War Il (1942-1946) and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. on June 13, 1943 he married Esther Flora Morse and had three sons together. Dr. McFarland lived most of his life in East Lansing and is known for his time as a a Professor at Michigan State University's School of Business for 20 years. He was an international management scholar and a prolific writer of textbooks, treatises and articles. He retired in 1983, but remained active publishing several books, articles, etc. relating to the interrelationships between business, society and ethics. He was particularly interested in applying management concepts to the health care field. Dalton Edward McFarland died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, February 6, 1991 in Orange Beach, AL, where he and his wife were spending the winter. After retirement in 1983, Dalton remained active publishing several books and articles relating to the interrelationships between business, society and ethics. He was particularly interested in applying management concepts to the health care field.

    Dalton married Esther Flora Morse of Cassopolis, MI, In 1943. Together they had three sons, Thomas, James and Ross McFarland. Following the death of Esther in 1971, he married Jean Beukema Brown (1919-2017). In his free time, Dalton was active in a variety of community services including serving as President of his condo association, serving on the Grand Haven Library Board, and being active with a group of retired Hope College educators. He and his wife. Jean, were also active in the church they attended, Grand Haven First Presbyterian Church.

    Published in the Lansing State Journal Newspaper on Sunday February 10, 1991: Dalton Edward McFarland died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, February 6, 1991 in Orange Beach, AL, where he and his wife were spending the winter. Dalton McFarland was born September 23, 1919 in New Brunswick, NE; he lived most of his life in East Lansing, where he was a Professor in the Management Department at Michigan State University's School of Business for 20 years. He served as Chairman of the Department for 9 years, and also served as Associate Dean. He enlisted in the Navy during World War Il and saw active duty in the Pacific Theater. Following the death of Esther in 1971, he married Jean Beukema Brown, who survives him. He is also survived by 1 brother, Robert K. McFarland of New York City and 7 grand. children. Dr. McFarland was an international management scholar and a prolific writer of textbooks, treatises and articles. He received his B.A Degree from Western Michigan University, his M.B.A. from University of Chicago, and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. After a long and distinguished career at MSU, he was appointed University Professor at the University of Alabama. He retired in 1983, but remained active publishing several books, articles, etc. relating to the interrelationships between business, society and ethics. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 15, 1991 in Grand Haven at the First Presbyterian Church at 12 Noon.
