    Douglas Wallace Jr. South Boston, V.A. - Douglas Dee Wallace Jr., 49, died July 7, 1988, in Garden City Beach, S.C. A native of Mullens, W.V. he was a former resident of Suffolk, V.A. and lived in South Boston, V.A. He was a personnel director for Burlington Industries. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Nunn Wallace; two sons, Douglas Dee Wallace III and Matthew Palmer Wallace, both of South Boston, V.A.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Dee Wallace Sr. of Suffolk, V.A. and two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Best of Richmond, V.A., and Mrs. Bud Shelton of Suffolk, V.A. The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 P.M. in First Baptist Church in South Boston by the Rev. Curtis Finch. Burial will be in the Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 P.M. in Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, V.A.

In 1939, in the year that Douglas Dee Wallace Jr. was born, in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. First released in December 1937, it was originally dubbed "Disney's Folly" but the premiere received a standing ovation from the audience. At the 11th Academy Awards in February 1939, Walt Disney won an Academy Honorary Award - a full-size Oscar statuette and seven miniature ones - for Snow White.

In 1947, at the age of merely 8 years old, Douglas was alive when on November 25th, the Hollywood "Black List" was created by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired.
