Introduction

Dorris was born to Flora Pearl Post and John August Gronquist (a Swedish Carpenter) in Oklahoma Territory in 1902. Her brother Laurent came along in 1905 but she lost her mother in that childbirth. She was raised by her Grandmother Post. She married Roy Winfield Gates and had 8 children, two of which died in childhood. She was a wonderful farm wife, mother, and cook. She did vegetable gardening and lots of handcrafts, her favorite one being crochet. She was a great lady and I loved going to stay with her in her small town of Brunswick, MO.
