In 1940, she married Orin Paul Shoemaker (1922–1981). Together the couple had children Joan Lynn (Shoemaker) Sullivent (1941-2017), Orin Michael "Mike" Shoemaker, Neal Patrick Shoemaker, Robyn (Shoemaker), Stephen Fay Shoemaker, Diane Louise (Shoemaker), and Lisa Delores (Shoemaker) Vltava.
