    Dewey Wayne Minteer was born to Clarence Raymond Minteer (1905 - 1980) and Cora Mae Kennedy (1911 - 1948). He had siblings John Andrew (1930 - 2005), Frank (1936 - 1936), and Clarence (1945 - 1945), Jane, and Virginia Minteer. Dewy Minteer married Vinnie DeCaria on September 16, 1967, and they had three daughters, Mindy, Marcie, and Maria Minteer. They were married for 31 years when he died from a traffic accident. His tanker truck collided with two cars and then caught on fire. He died in the burn unit at Akron Children's Burn Center the next day. See Dewey W Minteer: Obituary.

    DEWEY W. MINTEER Minteer, 55, member of BVM church, Vietnam vet Dewey W. Minteer, 55, of 206 Martin Ave., Ellport, died at 6:35 p.m. yesterday, December 20, 1998, in Akron Children's Burn Center in Akron, Ohio, as a result of injuries suffered when his gasoline tanker truck collided with two cars and caught fire on Route 422 in Shenango Township shortly after 12:30 a.m. yesterday. A lifelong area resident, he was born May 22, 1943, in Ellwood City to the late Clarence "Pete" and Cora Kennedy Minteer and had been married more than 31 years, since September 16, 1967 to the former Vinnie DeCaria who survives. Mr. Minteer was a truck driver and was working for Hazen Petroleum Inc. of Ellwood City when the accident occurred. he former worked at Babcock & Wilcox for 20 years. A 1960 graduate of Laurel High School, he served in the Army during the Vietnam era, from 1960 to 1966. He was a member of Purification BVM Roman Catholic Church and the Hungarian Home. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Mrs. Kurt (Mindy) Radaz of Louisville, KY., Mrs. John (Marcie) Jewett of Saginaw, Mich., and Maria Minteer at Arizona State University; two grandchildren, Savannah Jewett and Kolten Radaz; two brothers, John Minteer and Larry Minteer, both of Ellwood City; and two sisters, Jane Majors and Virginia Behman, both of New Castle. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Avenue. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in BVM church by the pastor, the Rev. Mauro J. Cautela. Burial will be in St. Agatha Cemetery. Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military rites. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.
