Elberta and Derwin Briggs
Derwin & Elberta, children of Lula Lewis & Ira Briggs of Hammonton, Ca. Derwin married Betty Smith & had a daughter Ann Stocking (1942). Betty died from Pix disease. 2) married Evelyn King. They had Susan Clark (1948) who has 2 boys, Bob & Tim, Sharon Uren (1950) who has Miranda, & Sharleen Cantrell (1953) who has Kyle & Karissa. Derwin met Gen Mc Arthur during WW2. He was a truck driver afterwards. Aunt Lou was very close to him & was grief stricken when he died of a heart attack Jan 5, 1966. She died 2 months later on March 6th.

Top: Lou, Jasper, Alton Houseman, Everett Haslett, Glenn Weldon, Miss Cummins, & Emery. Evelyn Wehunt, my sister Ceta Holmes, Adelene Bird, Hester, Tina, Mildred, & Bernice Gilbert. Bottom: cousin Derwin Briggs, James, George, Johnny, and Norton. Mostly from Hammonton, California 5th & 6th grades 1926-7.
People in photo include: Alton Houseman, Everett Haslett, Glenn Weldon, Evelyn Wehunt, Adelene Bird, and Bernice Gilbert

Derwin's Birthday Party at Parks Bar
My dad took this photo of our picnic at Parks Bar (along the Yuba River below Smartsville) on Derwins birthday in 1924. Mama made angelfood cake & we had homemade ice cream. Uncle Ira, Elberta holds Marion, Aunt Lou, Mama, myself (Bethel). Front: Ceta, Derwin, Gertrude Dudley, Milo, & Verna. Gertrude was Verna's age I use to play with her more. Her father Joe was a dredgermaster in Hammonton.
