  • Introduction

My Dad was the most loving and wonderful Dad a kid could have. He didn't make very much money, he didn't have fancy things, but he was fun, and he had the biggest heart a man could have. He loved my mother dearly to the day he died. I miss my daddy. We used to go camping all the time, and we had so much fun. We would ride motorcycles, and go gold panning, we would fill up inner-tubes and float down streams and rivers, we would go hiking, and fly radio controlled airplanes. He bought me my first motorcycle, a green Yamaha 80, and taught me how to ride. He taught me how to shoot and use a gun, as well as a bow. He believed in God, and believed that Jesus is our Savior. My Dad was just a fun guy to be with, and was always happy and joking and smiling. He tried to teach me the guitar, though I never had the patience. I remember some, and now try to teach myself the guitar. I held onto a guitar lesson book he bought me back in the 90's, I just recently received his old 12 string guitar as a birthday present from my Cousin, Aunt and Mom, although, I am not worthy to play it yet, maybe one day. I was a lucky child to have the Dad I had, and I didn't even realize it until after he was gone. I took it for granted that my Dad would always be there, and I didn't see the pain and suffering in his eyes, and it seemed I didn't know everything about my Dad. It turned out that my Dad had suffered from schizophrenia and depression for years, and eventually it overwhelmed him. My Dad took his own life. It's crazy the amount of guilt you can feel, and the "what if's?" and the "If I had only's" and then the confusion, I mean, did I really know my Dad if I didn't see this coming? What kind of ignorant child am I for not having realized my Dad's problems? For years I held onto regret, and guilt, and I finally came to the conclusion, that in the end it was my Dad's decision to take his own life. I might not ever know why for sure, but I know I love him, maybe more than ever before, and I miss him every day of my life. I believe in God and Jesus as my savior, and I look forward to the day when I see my Daddy again, and through God's grace, may we lovingly embrace again.
