Daphne Constance (Wood Murray) Gawthrop was born on July 22, 1940 at Houston, TX, USA in Houston, Harris County, Texas United States. She married Robert Nelson Murray in 1961 in Houston, Harris County and they later divorced in 1991 in Houston. They had children Robert Nelson Murray Jr. and Daphne Cushing Butler. She married Alfred Irving Gawthrop Jr. in 1991 in Sacramento, Sacramento County, California, and they were married until Alfred's death on August 1, 2004 in Sacramento.
