He was in a relationship with Letha Melvina (Wood) Tuel, and had children Carroll Tuel, Thelma (Tuel) Swerder, Kenneth C. Tuel, and Gordon Tuel. Clyde Tuel died at age 72 years old on December 22, 1956 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish County, LA.

In 1884, in the year that Clyde Oscar Tuel was born, on August 5th, the cornerstone for the base of the Statue of Liberty - a gift from the people of France - was laid. 120,000 people - most donations were $1 - donated to the completion of the base.
