The Age, Melbourne. 27th May 1912. SHERGOLD.- On the 26th May, at her residence, Ararat, Clara Florence, beloved wife of John Samuel Shergold, of Paterson Laing and Bruce, and daughter of Charles F. and Sarah J. Cutten, of Wrexham-road, Windsor, aged 25 years. The Leader, Melbourne, 8th June 1912. SHERGOLD ( nee Cutten ). - On the 25th May, at Ararat, Clara Florence, eldest daughter of F. C. Cutten, ( late of Victorian Railways, Sale, Caulfield, Beaufort and Hamilton ) and S. J. Cutten, Windsor, and wife of J. Shergold, Ararat.

In 1887, in the year that Clara Florence Shergold ( Cutten was born, on May 9th, Buffalo Bill's Wild West show opened in London. Founded in 1883, the show was attended - twice - by Queen Victoria and adored by audiences who thrilled to his fanciful acts portraying life in the "Wild West."

In 1892, by the time she was only 5 years old, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.
