Christopher Gotjen 1887 - 1973

Christopher Gotjen was born on July 3, 1887 to Ana Von Ahnen. He married Elizabeth (Walker) Gotjen on December 23, 1914, and they were married until Elizabeth's death on June 14, 1955. He had children Floyd Gotjen, Helen Gotjen, Merle Gotjen, Charley Gotjen, Paul Gotjen, and Arthur Gotjen. Christopher Gotjen died at age 86 years old on September 18, 1973.

In 1887, in the year that Christopher Gotjen was born, on May 9th, Buffalo Bill's Wild West show opened in London. Founded in 1883, the show was attended - twice - by Queen Victoria and adored by audiences who thrilled to his fanciful acts portraying life in the "Wild West."
Did you know?
In 1904, by the time he was 17 years old, the "Teddy's Bear" was first produced. After seeing a political cartoon of President Teddy Roosevelt refusing to kill a clubbed and tied up bear, Jewish Russian immigrant Morris Michtom - who owned a candy shop and sold stuffed animals that he and his wife made at night at the store - made a "Teddy's Bear" and put it in his shop's window. The stuffed bears were an immediate success and Michtom and his wife went on to found the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.
