Charles Platt Leek was born on May 14, 1877 in Lower Bank, Burlington County, New Jersey United States to William Spafford Leek and Rebecca Lane Cramer, and had siblings Richard Leek, Mary Ida Leek, Annie Allen Leek, and Walter Bentley Leek. He married Edith Young, and had children Cecil Gilbert Leek, Olga Winona Leek, and John Everett Leek. Charles Leek died at age 81 years old on March 22, 1959 in Lower Bank.

In 1913, at the age of 36 years old, Charles was alive when the Philippine–American War ended for good in June. While the official end of the war was in 1902, fighting continued for several years. An estimated 200,000 to 250,000 total Filipino civilians died and although the U.S. viewed its role as a colonial presence as one of preparing the Philippines for independence, American colonization drastically changed the character off the culture. The Catholic Church was no longer the state religion and English became the primary language of the government.
