Oakes, and had siblings George William Leek, Cornelia Maretta Leek, Susan Maria Leek, Ellen Leek, Ada E. Leek, Sadie Leek, John R. Leek, James Leek, and Elias Platt Leek. He married Phebe Elizabeth Hayden, and had children Alfred William Leek, Sarah E. Leek, Charles Franklin Leek, Henrietta Oakes Leek, and Henrietta Leek. Charles Leek died at age 80 years old on June 21, 1943 in Hudson, Columbia County.

In 1874, at the age of only 12 years old, Charles was alive when on September 14th, the Battle of Liberty Place occurred in New Orleans - the capital of Louisiana. Some members of the previous Confederate Army assembled for the purpose of "driving the usurpers from power" and the Republican Governor - William P. Kellogg - was physically driven from his office. The former Confederates temporarily replaced him with (the former) Democratic Governor John McEnery. Federal forces arrived, put down the insurrection, and five days later the legally elected government was restored.
