    Calogero "Charles" Catalano was born in Sicily, Italy on March 12th, 1876 to Santo Catalano (1837-1905) and Venere Esposto (1841-1905). He had one sister, Maria (1882 - 1945). Charles married Mary (1883 - 1958) on February 2nd, 1901 in Sicily and they had seven children: Leonard, Santo "Santino", Verna, Joseph, Samuel, Charles, and Phillipina "Phyllis", all born between 1904 and 1920. By 1930, according to the Federal census, Charles was a naturalized citizen living in Buffalo, New York, with his wife Mary, and five of his children: Santo, Joseph, Sam, Charley, and Phillipina.
