Introduction

Charles Alois Bencik is alive, and typing this correction to the record, at this very moment. The buried, cremated remains which is in the burial site at Miramar National Cemetery are the cremains of Helga Else Bencik, who passed away on January 12, 2013. Helga was Charles' wife; they were married August 28, 1962 in Tokyo, Japan, and also had their union sacramentalized at Yokosuka Naval Base Chapel, Yokosuka Japan on September 1, 1962. Charles anticipates that at some time on the future his cremains will be buried at the same burial site in Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.

Charles' parents, Edward J. and Stephanie Bencik emmigrated to the United States from 1907 to 1921, His father Edward first came to the U.S. in 1907 from an area which is now known as the Slovak Republic. It was a territory of the Austro Hungarian Empire until 1918, the end of the First World War, when it became part of the new nation, Czechoslovakia. Edward's great grandparents remained in Czechoslovakia, while his parents and uncles/aunts also emigrated to the United States. Stephanie Bencik's family did not emigrate to the United States except one cousin from the Pribis clan who settled in Cleveland. The Benciks first settled in Chicago, and later, about the 1980s, moved to Orlando, FL and Bremerton, WA.
Early Life & Education

Grade school and high school in Chicago, IL. Attended 2 years in pursuit of Bachelor of Physics degree at Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois; and 4 additional years of studies at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL. He graduated from IIT in June 1961, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics and an officer commission as a U. S. Navy Reserve Ensign.

Baptised Roman Catholic at birth. First Communion Christmas, 1952.
Professional Career

July 1961 to June 1963 serving on active duty aboard the Naval vessel USS CASTOR (AKS-1), in the Western Pacific; based at Yokosuka, Japan and providing supply support to ships and other activities in Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan; Subic Bay, Phillipines; Kao Shung and Keelung, Taiwan, Iwo Jima; and Hong Kong, China; with the crew of USS CASTOR from July 1961 to June 1963. July 1964 employed by San Diego Gas and Electric Co. as a Valuation Assistant for electrical power production plants operated at that time in the San Diego area. July 1967 returned to active service with the U.S. Navy as aTraining and Administration officer for the US Navy drilling reserve; was Commanding officer of three Reserve stations in central Pennsylvania and the San Bernardino California Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center. Retired from active Navy duty June 1985 and returned with family to home in San Diego. Various temporary clerical employment jobs from 1985 until 1997, when hired by the San Diego Maritime Museum to serve as Librarian and Editor of Museum Quarterly Magazine until 2002. Currently retired and doing tasks for a number of volunteer organizations.
Personal Life & Family

In 1976, managed disaster recovery at Naval Reserve Facility, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, following flooding and overflow of three dams located in surrounding mountain areas. Active duty personnel earned the Navy Unit Commendation for variety of health, material support, and cooperation with American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and coordination with Congressman John Murtha. Promoted and obtained new training center in the Johnstown area thru assistance of Congressman Murtha. Also earned the Humanitarian Service Medal for all active duty personnel then assigned. Earned a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management degree from Pepperdine University, while stationed in New Orleans, LA with Navy's Readiness Command Region 5, New Orleans.

The remains at present buried inSection 12 Site 562, 5795 Nobel Drive, in San Diego, California 92122 (Miramar National Cemetery) are the remains of Helga Else Bencik, wife of Charles, the MAN who at this time is still alive. It's hoped that someone working in Ancient Faces will change the name of the remains to Helga Else Bencik, AND DELETE the name "Charles Alois Bencik." Administrators of the Miramar NC are asked to make this correction. ..... ADDITIONAL NOTE: Charles has been blessed with musical and artistic abilities, and would like to find where such information could be posted in this biographic compilation. Charles' home phone is publicly listed in the San Diego phone book.
