In 1916, in the year that Catherine Mcclaren was born, the U.S. National Park Service - part of the Department of the Interior - was created by an act of Congress in August. In 1923, at the age of just 7 years old, Catherine was alive when on November 8th and 9th, Adolf Hitler and his followers (the early Nazi party) staged the "Beer Hall Putsch" in Munich in an attempt to take over Bavaria (a state in Germany). They failed. Hitler was charged with treason and convicted, receiving a sentence of 5 years. He served under 1 year in jail.
