  • Ethnicity & Family History

Carroll's ethnicity is mostly English with some German mixed in. He died before DNA was available for individual testing, as did his father, so unless there are any direct line Minces who are willing to test, we will not know his true ethnicity.
  • Early Life & Education

Carroll moved with his family from Prairie County, AR, to Norfolk County, VA, when a small child and attended Hickory Elementary School and Great Bridge High School from where he graduated in 1958. He was a member of Future Farmers of America and the 4-H Club while in school.
  • Professional Career

When Carroll was 15 years old, he wanted to be an auctioneer, so he applied to an auctioneering school in Iowa and took a train there where he learned the profession. His mother said he used to sell bars of soap while taking a bath! He handled quite a few farm sales in Norfolk and Princess Anne counties, VA, when quite young.
  • Personal Life & Family

Carroll was not a church-goer or joiner or organizations.

With his little wheelbarrow and jumpsuit, Carroll learned early how to feed cows and about farming. Taken on the Mince Farm in Norfolk County, VA, probably between 1941 and 1944 is my guess, and the photo is credited to Paul Schweitzer.
