    Karl "Carl" Albert Bard was born to Johan Alfred Bard/Bardh (1865 - 1949) and Wilhelmina Johansdotter Larsson (1864 - 1948). His father was born in Sweden, as was his mother. He had siblings Johan Ivar (1890 - 1937), Helmer Walfrid (1891 - 1976), Anna Cesilia (born 1894), Ernest Harald (1897 - 1964), Signe Linnea (born 1902), Judith Hosefina (1904 - 1971), Sven Rickard (1907 - 1985), and Axel August Hilding Bard (1910 - 2002). Car Bard married Anna Ellen Elisabeth Jansson (1907 - 1995) in 1928 in Manhattan, New York, and they had six children: Karl Erik (1929 - 1974), Violet "Vicky" E. (born 1938), Anna Ethel (born 1942), Lennart "Lenny" A., (1944 - 1994), Edwin "Eddie" Howard (1945 - 1995), and Agnes Beatrice Bard (1947 - 2017). In 1929, Carl arrived in the Bronx, New York on the ship Gripsholm. Arriving from Gothenburg, Sweden, he was 29 years old and planned on becoming a citizen. He was meeting his sister, Anna Gravick, who lived in the United States. Both Carl and his wife Ellen were naturalized in August of 1940.
