Bruce Allen Bechdel was born on April 8, 1936 in Beech Creek, Clinton County, Pennsylvania United States to Dorothy Eleanor Bechdel and Claude Heberling Bechdel, and had siblings Paul Jacob Bechdel, Eleanore Mae Miller, Miriam Jane Pool, and Fred C. Bechdel. He married Helen Augusta Bechdel in 1959, and they were married until Bruce's death on July 2, 1980. Bruce Bechdel had children Alison Bechdel, Bruce Christian Bechdel, and John Bechdel.
