Blakeley Hautrie West of Fitzroy Australia was born in 1865 to William Hautrie West and Hannah Elizabeth Blakeley West. He had siblings Fred Arthur West and Daisy Nora Jamieson. He married Catherine Martha (Mudge) West, and had a child William Hautrey West. Blakeley West died at age 68 years old on October 24, 1934 in Fitzroy, and was buried at Ashes scattered., in Fawkner Crematorium, City of Moreland County, VIC.

In 1865, in the year that Blakeley Hautrie West was born, on September 26th, Champ Ferguson, a Confederate guerrilla, became the first person to be convicted of war crimes arising from the Civil War. (There was only one other person convicted of war crimes in the Civil War.) He was found guilty by a U.S. Army tribunal on 23 charges arising from the murder of 53 people. On October 20, he was hung.

In 1889, at the age of 24 years old, Blakeley was alive when on May 31st, the South Fork Dam collapsed. Located in western Pennsylvania, the dam failed - sending more than 20 million tons of water into the towns below it. The flood killed more than 2,200 people in and around Johnstown. The newly formed Red Cross responded to the disaster.
