Bithiah (Turtle) Allen was born on October 19, 1838 to Charles Batterson Turtle and Sarah (Squire) Turtle, and had a brother George Edward Turtle. She married James Allen, and had a child James Bithiah Allen. Bithiah Allen died at age 92 years old on February 6, 1931, and was buried at St. John's Church in Camden, Camden Council County, NSW Australia.

In 1838, in the year that Bithiah (Turtle) Allen was born, on February 24th, Representatives William J. Graves (Kentucky) and Jonathan Cilley (Maine) fought a duel with rifles. They faced off at 94 yards. Cilley was hit on Graves' third try - in the femoral artery - and bled to death on the dueling field. The Panic of 1837 and Jackson's presidency had caused an extremely partisan Congress and the duel was a result.
