Betty Jean (Matthews) Bogan was born on September 12, 1929 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana United States to Herbert Leslie Matthews Sr and Goldie May (Reeder) Matthews, and had siblings Herbert Leslie Matthews, James Douglas Matthews, Mary Luella (Matthews) Davies - Bobbitt, Stanley Edward Matthews, Anna Louise (Matthews) Dillane, Carl Eugene Matthews, and Ethel May (Matthews) Gahimer. She married Richard Charles Bogan on March 5, 1949, and died at age 77 years old on January 7, 2007 in Indianapolis. Betty Bogan was buried at Washington Park East Cemetery - Washington Park Cemetery Association 10612 E Washington St, in Indianapolis.

    Indianapolis Star on January 9, 2007 Betty J. Bogan passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007 following a 7 year struggle with ovarian cancer. Betty was born September 12, 1929 to Goldie and Herbert Matthews. She was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. Early in her business career, she worked for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, and later for the U.S. Social Security Administration, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. At Various times, she was engaged in the field of real estate. She was at one time active in the American Business Women's Association, and served as president of its Capitol Star Chapter. Betty enjoyed her home and loved cooking and gardening, especially in her retirement years. At the time of her death, she was vice-president of the Indianapolis Greater Southside Garden Club and an active member of the Wildcat Run Homeowners Association. Survivors include her husband of 57 years; daughters; grandsons; granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers; and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Les and Stan. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 11 a.m.
