Betty Jane (Klingerman) Drobeck was born on September 13, 1927 in Freeland, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania United States to James Lewis Klingerman Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Klingerman, and had siblings Merlin Robert Klingerman, Donald James Klingerman, Thomas Robert Klingerman, Lois Irene Michael, James Lewis Klingerman Jr., Carole Mary O'Donnell, Beverly Ann Meneeley, Richard Nelson Klingerman, and Wayne Allen Klingerman. She married John Norman Drobeck in 1969 in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, and they were married until John's death on July 8, 1979 in Lorain. Betty Drobeck died at age 82 years old on June 5, 2010 in Lorain, Lorain County, and was buried on June 12, 2010 at Mt Laurel Memorial Park 1000 S Church St, in Luzerne County, PA.

In 1943, at the age of 16 years old, Betty was alive when on June 20th through June 22nd, the Detroit Race Riot erupted at Belle Isle Park. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.
