Bertie Edwin Gaskin of Melbourne Australia was born in 1894 to Samuel Gaskin and Helene Marie (Thomsen) Gaskin. He had siblings Clara Christobel Gaskin Gartner (Timmo), Bertha Minnie Ada (Gaskin) Stephens, Arthur Robert Gaskin, and Eliza Helene (Thomsen) Bogun. He married Iris Irene (Cameron) Gascoigne (Gaskin), and had children Dudley Leslie Gascoigne and Edna Eugenie (Gascoigne) Murden. Bertie Gaskin died at age 66 years old in 1960 in Melbourne.

So the Japan fleet launched a surprise attack on the Russian Navy and a one year war began. President Roosevelt of the United States brokered peace between the two nations. It was the first time in the modern era that an Asian power showed its dominance over a European power.
