    KIZIS BERTHA "BERT" (PEROVICH) 89, of Brentwood, on Mon., Feb. 5, 2007. Beloved wife of 67 years to the late Peter Kizis; dear mother of Sandra (Robert) McClelland and Carol (Joseph Gardella) Kizis; grandmother of Lisa and Tim McClelland and Claire and Joseph Gardella; sister of Nick Perovich, Jeanne Lauda and the late Pete Palmer and Betty Schroeder. Friends received at the CIESLAK & TATKO FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2935 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, on Thurs. 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral Prayer on Fri. at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Wendelin Church at 10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to "Cradle Beach Camp for Children with Special Needs", 8038 Old Lakeshore Rd., Angola, NY 14006, ATTN: Diane Gutkowski.

The February revolution resulted in the abdication of Tsar Nicholas and a coalition of the Parliament and workers parties taking control of the government. The October revolution resulted in Lenin and the Bolsheviks taking complete control.

In 1933, Bertha was 16 years old when Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.
