Introduction

News Article posted in the Sacramento Bee on 08-16-1959 stated that Bernice was involved in a traffic accident at Franklin Boulevard at 11th Avenue. Bernice, who lived at 3708 46th Avenue, was driving a vehicle when she struck a pedestrian, Sarah Hicock, age 69, of 3901 12th Ave. Sarah was treated for a fracture of an arm. Bernice said she was blinded by the lights of oncoming traffic and could not see Mrs. Hicock in time. The police did not issue Bernice a traffic ticket for the accident.

Bernice Sumie Hikiji Ochikubo died on September 26, 1994. Loving mother of Orene and Berge Ochikubo, Reyne and Dan Lee, Joy and Karl Hirai, Faithy and Sam Kawasaki. Daughter of Yukino Hikiji, sister of Gertrude Kurihara, Rose and Kaz Kimura, Alyse Munesato, Dorothy Antoku, Muroko and Vince Shiio, Grandmother of Jennifer and Krissy Hirai, and Marc Lee. Survived by several nieces and nephews. A native and resident of Sacramento for 79 years. Services will be held Monday, October 3, 1994 at 7 P.M. at the Sacramento Betsuin Church, 2401 Riverside Boulevard.
