Beatrice (Small) Brantley of Springfield, Hampden County, MA was born on May 2, 1904, and had siblings Daniel Brantley and Lucille (Brantley) Murphy. She married Murray Brantley, and they had children John M. Brantley, Inez (Brantley) Gadson, Evins Brantley, Peter L Brantley, Daniel Brantley, and Lucille (Brantley) Murphy. She was the parent of Evins Brantley. She also married Murray Brantley, and they had a child John M. Brantley. She was the parent of Bessie (Brantley) Wilkins. She also married Murray Brantley, and they had children Isabelle (Brantley) Hosten, Inez (Brantley) Gadson, and Peter L Brantley. Beatrice Brantley died at age 82 years old in November 1986, and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield.

In 1904, in the year that Beatrice Brantley was born, the "Teddy's Bear" was first produced. After seeing a political cartoon of President Teddy Roosevelt refusing to kill a clubbed and tied up bear, Jewish Russian immigrant Morris Michtom - who owned a candy shop and sold stuffed animals that he and his wife made at night at the store - made a "Teddy's Bear" and put it in his shop's window. The stuffed bears were an immediate success and Michtom and his wife went on to found the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.

In 1945, when she was 41 years old, on June 22nd, the Battle of Okinawa ended. A joint Army and Marine campaign, supported by the Navy, the Battle of Okinawa went on for 82 days. The last Japanese resistance on Okinawa was defeated. 4,907 Navy, 4,675 Army, and 2,938 Marine Corps personnel were killed in the battle on the US side. It is estimated that 110,071 on the Japanese side were killed - the estimate includes Okinawan citizens who were pressed into service and includes children. With the win of Okinawa, the United States gained an important base of operations in the Pacific.
