Arthur Leslie Everett was born on March 31, 1888 in Corindhap, Golden Plains Shire County, VIC Australia to Isaac Everett and Henrietta (Palmer) Everett, and had siblings Harry Everett, Isaac Everett., Frederick Everett, George Everett, Thomas Everett, Bert Everett, Harold Everett, Percy Everett, and John Everett. He married Olive Isabel (Hearn) Everett, and they were married until death separated them. He had a child Colin Neil Everett. Arthur Everett died at age 69 years old on August 28, 1957, and was buried at Rokewood Cemetery in Rokewood.

In 1888, in the year that Arthur Leslie Everett was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!

In 1890, at the age of only 2 years old, Arthur was alive when on June 1st, the U.S. Census Bureau started tabulating census returns with punch cards. Herman Hollerith's "tabulating machine" used punch cards to more quickly compute census information, taking the time to get census results from 8 years in 1880 to 6 years for the 1890 census. Hollerith's company eventually became IBM.
