Arlena F Savio, 87, of 702 Riverside Drive, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday in Parkview Memorial Hospital. Surviving are four sons, James, Blanchard, Richard and Jack, all of Fort Wayne and Shirley Anderson of Indianapolis; two sisters, Clara Mettert of Auburn and Virginia Thomas of New Haven; and four brothers, George, Elmer, Paul, and Gilbert Moss, all of Fort Wayne. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home. Friends my call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Preferred memorials are gifts to Trinity United Methodist Church.

In 1895, in the year that Arlena F (Moss) Savio was born, on March 15th, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Michael Cleary killed his wife of 8 years, Bridget, and burned her body. His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.

In 1910, Arlena was just 15 years old when Halley's comet, which returns past the earth every 75 - 76 years was observed photographically for the first time. Two fortuitous events occurred - photography had been invented since the last time the comet had passed and the comet was relatively close. People bought gas masks, "anti-comet pills" and "anti-comet umbrellas".
