Maurice Nash Obituary
"His Lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.'" ~ Matthew 25:21.
Lt. Col. Maurice Nash, of Longview, was born July 1, 1925, in Hugo, Oklahoma, and passed away January 31, 2008, in Longview, at the age of 82.
He was a a true soldier, entering the United States Army upon graduation from high school in 1943. Colonel Nash served in the 45th division and 180th infantry. His dedication to our nation took him all over the world, living and serving in Germany, France, Japan, Ethiopia and throughout the United States. After 20 years active duty, Colonel retired and began the next phase of his military career through civil service in plans and operations, which lasted 22 years.
Following his retirement from the Army, Colonel, as he was affectionately known by his friends and family, moved to Longview, Texas, where he began his role in leadership at The Dove Christian Fellowship. He showed his love for his Heavenly Father and his church through his devoted service. Spending almost every day on the church and retreat grounds, Colonel could be found working on any one of his many ongoing projects. He was also an avid hunter and collector, taking dozens of trips throughout the states and overseas, hunting every type of game and collecting "treasures," as he so often called them.
Colonel is survived by his loving wife, Aquilla Nash; sons, Damon Nash, Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Nash, Pastor and Mrs. Larry Wilkins and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wilkins; eight grandchildren, Steven Nash, Melissa Wilkins, Lindsay Vanderbilt, Brett Wilkins and Autumn, Amber, Ashley and Alyse Wilkins; and one sister, Joyce Corneto.
He lived by the mantra, God first, family second and country third, though somehow he seemed to give all of his energy to each. He was loved and held in high esteem by his many friends and family and will be missed in more ways than we can yet imagine.
A service commemorating his life will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008, at The Dove Christian Fellowship, 560 Price Lane, Hallsville, Texas, with Pastor Isaac Pitre and Pastor Larry Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Rosewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Welch Funeral Home.
Any memorial contributions may be made in Colonel's name to The Dove Christian Retreat, P.O. Box 6500, Longview, TX 75608.
