Anthony Ridgway 1821 - 1890

Anthony Ridgway was born in 1821, and had siblings William Ridgway and Charlotte (Ridgway) Lineham. He was married to Sophia (Cadd) Ridgway, and they were together until death separated them. He had children William Ridgway, John Ridgway, Charlotte Bould (Ridgeway), Susannah Ridgway, Sophia Charlotte (Ridgway) Salter, Thomas Ridgway, George Ridgway, Mark Ridgway, and James Ridgway. Anthony Ridgway died at age 68 years old on January 27, 1890 in Clyde, City of Casey County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Cranbourne Cemetery in Cranbourne.

Once part of the Louisiana Purchase, the Missouri Territory had petitioned to become a state in 1818 but because slavery was an issue in the US at the time, the territory's request was controversial. With the Missouri Compromise of 1820 - which made Maine a free state and Missouri a slave state - Missouri was admitted to the US.

In 1830, Anthony was only 9 years old when on August 31st, Edwin Beard Budding was granted a patent for the invention of the lawn mower. Budding invented the lawn mower to cut the grass on sports grounds and extensive gardens - it was intended to be a superior alternative to the scythe. His mower was 19 inches wide with a frame made of wrought iron and looked much like a modern push mower.
