Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Anthony

Anthony was, or rather is, my paternal great-grandfather. This remarkable man immigrated to the United States just days before World War 1 began. Only in his twenties, he set sail from Antwerp, Belgium for New York aboard the ship Vaterland. He had been born in the city of Gelsenkirchen, Germany located in what is now the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a region very dear to me for many reasons. Once in the States, he took up farming. He became a citizen of this country in 1919. He eventually married the beautiful Katherine & went to work for Chevrolet. Anthony is very much a part of my life. Though he died a handful of years before I was born, he is very well-known to me now. My great-granddad is my spirit guide & source of trusted guidance as I navigate a midlife of both mental, physical, and financial challenges. The last few years, especially 2023 up until now, have been extremely difficult. I used to think I couldn't survive it all, couldn't cope, but then I am reminded of this gentleman, whose blood runs in my veins, who left everything he knew and cast himself upon a far distant shore as barely more than a kid. Dear Great-Grandpa Anthony, thank you for passing your indefatigable spirit along to me. And thank you for your constant help, always sending me signs when I need them. I'd be lost without you.
