Annie Wallace died at age 51 years old on July 29, 1957 in Danville, and was buried on July 31, 1957 at Highland Burial Park N Main St, in Danville.

    Rites Wednesday For Mrs. Wallace Funeral services will be conducted from the Wrenn-Yeatts Chapel tomorrow at 5 P.M. for Mrs. Annie Lee Wallace who died last night in Memorial Hospital after a critical illness of one month. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. Mrs. Wallace, age 51, was born August 4, 1905 in Pittsylvania County, V.A. She was a daughter of the late John Henry Worley and Emma Jane Liggin Worley. In February of 1920 she was married to Fred N. Wallace. For the past 35 years she had made her home in Danville and resided at 323 Moffett St. Prior to her illness she was employed in the Sewing Room at Dan River Mills. Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Dry Fork Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband and the following daughter and sons; Mrs. Jean W. Davis, Willie J. Wallace, D. T. Wallace, Bobby R. Wallace all of Danville, V.A., and Henry N. Wallace of Gretna, V.A. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters; J. A. Worley, and Sam Worley of Danville, V.A., W. W. Worley, A. W. Worley, Roy Worley, Douglas Worley, Edward Worley, Mrs. Raymond Stowe, Mrs. D. C. Stutz and Mrs. Ruby Worley all of Dry Fork, V.A.

In 1916, Annie was only 11 years old when in June, the U.S. Congress authorized a plan to expand the armed forces over the next five years. Called the National Defense Act of 1916, the national law expanded the National Guard and Army (the Army added an aviation unit), created the Reserves, and gave the President expanded authority to federalize the National Guard. It also allowed the government to stockpile, in advance, materiel to be used in wartime.
