Annetta Florence (Donovan) Arklay 1889 - 1971

Annetta Florence (Donovan) Arklay of Ballarat, City of Ballarat County, VIC Australia was born in 1889 in Mount Egerton, Moorabool Shire County to Thomas Donovan and Catherine (Kay) Steward. She had siblings John Thomas Donovan and James Emanuel Donovan. She married James Sword Arklay in 1906, and had children Willimena Katherine Arklay, Thomas Donovan Arklay, John Edward Arklay, and Margaret Ellen Arklay. Annetta Arklay died at age 81 years old on February 6, 1971 in Ballarat, City of Ballarat County.

In 1889, in the year that Annetta Florence (Donovan) Arklay was born, on May 31st, the South Fork Dam collapsed. Located in western Pennsylvania, the dam failed - sending more than 20 million tons of water into the towns below it. The flood killed more than 2,200 people in and around Johnstown. The newly formed Red Cross responded to the disaster.
