Anna Ethelyn (Matson) Steig was born on September 25, 1887 in Gratiot, Lafayette County, Wisconsin United States to Charles Perry Matson and Anna (Annie) Nattrass, and had siblings John Charles Matson and Mabel S. Matson. She was in a relationship with Henry L. Steig, and had children Helen Margaret Steig, Lucille Steig, and Ruth Steig. Anna Steig died at age 88 years old on March 11, 1976 in Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, IA.

In 1887, in the year that Anna Ethelyn Matson was born, on January 28th, the largest recorded snowflakes fell in a snowstorm in Fort Keogh, Montana.
