She was married to Thomas Hughes, and had children Mary Ann Hughes Biggs, Thomas Edward Hughes, Margaret Jane (Hughes) Jones, Charles Hughes, Agnes Caroline (Hughes) Moulden, Francis Ignatius Hughes, and Maria Louisa (Hughes) Austin. Ann Hughes died at age 72 years old on March 30, 1903 in Traralgon, VIC Australia.

The Act authorized the President to negotiate with Native Americans in the southern region of the US, exchanging their ancestral lands for federal territory west of the Mississippi River.
