  • Introduction

    Angel was born in 1900 in Ponce Puerto Rico. He arrived in the USA in 1925. He got employment with Winchester Corp where he was got to be Forman of the machine repair dept. He retired in 1964. He and his wife Rafaela Cruz Chardon devoted years of their lives helping Puerto Rican families assimilate into the New Haven Connecticut city by getting them jobs and housing . Angel was a very serious and intelligent person. He was proud of his heritage and proud to be an American citizen. He had three children , Carlos, Orlando and Mercedes. Carlos who is a retire Engineer is the only living offspring that lives in PR and Mo with his wife Patricia.

In 1900, in the year that Angel Chardon was born, the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.
