    "Andy" Scearce Jr. Niles, I.L. - The graveside service for Andrew J. "Andy" Scearce Jr., 57, of 7065 North Frank Ave, will be conducted 2 P.M. today from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Rick Markham. He died Friday in The Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview, I.L. Born November 12, 1933, in Danville, V.A., he was a son of Naomi Wallace Scearce Eanes and Andrew J. Scearce Sr. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served part of his four years both in state-side and overseas duty. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Gen. Lloyd Wheaton Post No. 74. He attended Danville public schools. At the time of his death, he was employed in the security division by Kraft Foods in Glenview, I.L. He was formerly married to Eileen Pavlot Scearce of Wadsworth, I.L. She survives. A brother, Donald Scearce, preceded him in death. In addition to his mother of Niles, I.L. and his former wife, survivors include two daughters, Denise S. Bauman of Lake Zurick and Patricia Scearce "Pattie" of Wadsworth, I.L.; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the residence of Gail Scearce, 813 Melrose Ave.

In 1933, in the year that Andrew Jackson Scearce Jr. was born, Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.
