Anastatia (Ward) Edwards of Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County, VIC Australia was born in 1859 in Bendigo to Thomas Ward and Catherine Hyland Ward. She had siblings Elizabeth Ward, Margaret Daisy Seymour Ward, Catherine Ward Lear, Jane Frances Ward, and Mary Agnes (Ward) Clarke. Anastatia Edwards died at age 38 years old on October 30, 1898 in Bendigo.

In 1859, in the year that Anastatia Ward was born, on February 27th, US Congressman Daniel Sickles shot and killed Philip Barton Key - a US. District Attorney and son of Francis Scott Key, writer of the national anthem, for having an affair with his wife. Sickles claimed temporary insanity - the first to do so - and was acquitted.
