Ameila Jane Blacker 1886 - 1975

Ameila Jane (Blacker) Blacker of Cambrian Hill, Golden Plains Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1886 to Thomas Blacker and Mary Dobson Blacker. She had siblings Hannah (Blacker) Watkin, Mary Blacker Harvey, Margaret Blacker, Elizabeth Blacker, Harriet Blacker, Thomas Blacker, Sarah Ann Blacker, Albert Blacker, Alfred Blacker, James Blacker, Charles Blacker, and Joseph Blacker. She married Archibald Hugh Sutherland in 1909, and had children Irene Sutherland, Elva Sutherland, and Keith Sutherland. Ameila Blacker died at age 89 years old in 1975 in Cambrian Hill.

In 1886, in the year that Ameila Jane Blacker was born, on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.
