Alveine "Alvina" Albrecht 1877 - 1944

Alveine (Albrecht) Riley of Port Melbourne, VIC Australia was born on March 15, 1877 in North Melbourne, City of Melbourne County to William Albrecht and Mary Ann (Griffin) Albrecht. She had siblings Phoebe Ellen Albrecht, Henrietta Maria Albrecht, Clara Amanda Veronica (Albrecht) Perazzo, Florence Augusta Albrecht, William Aldolph Paul Albrecht, and Ferdinand Julius Albrecht. She married William Joseph Riley in 1905, and had children William Paul Adolf Riley, Louisa Riley, and Alvina Mary Ann Riley. Alveine Riley died at age 67 years old on November 10, 1944 in Port Melbourne.

In 1877, in the year that Alveine "Alvina" Albrecht was born, on July 14th, strikes and resulting riots began at the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad. A sympathy strike and rioting began in Pittsburgh and a worker's rebellion began in St. Louis, then spread to other cities. 100 people were killed before the strikes ended when President Rutherford B. Hayes sent federal troops to each of the cities involved.

In 1902, Alveine was 25 years old when the first Rose Bowl game was played in Pasadena, California. Called the "Tournament East–West football game" at the time, the Michigan Wolverines (East) played the Stanford Indians (West) - the Wolverines won 49 - 0. (The Stanford captain requested an end to the game with 8 minutes remaining.) The Tournament of Roses Parade began in 1890 and the football game began as a way to boost tourism in the area.
