He had siblings Mary Alice Gordon (Fox) Tyers, Charles Horace Fox, Leila Dimmock Fox, Minnie Louisa Fox, Andrew James Fox, Albert Edward Fox, Arthur Vincent Fox, Leonard Ernest Fox, and Joseph John Charlton Fox. Allan Fox married Irene Edith Graham in 1926, and died at age 72 years old in 1976 in Ballarat.

In 1904, in the year that Allan Bernard Fox was born, the United States acquired the Panama Canal Zone. Now an unincorporated territory of the U.S., the Canal Zone had been previously held by the French, who were constructing a canal. The U.S. took over the construction of the Panama Canal and it was finally finished in 1914, when it was opened to commercial shipping. The United States held the Canal Zone until 1979.

In 1920, he was 16 years old when on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.
