Alice Matilda (Downs) Fisher of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born on March 22, 1903 in Dunolly to John William Downs and Elizabeth Jones Downs. She had siblings Amy Elizabeth Downs, Henry Thomas Downs, Doris Downs, Annie Downs, Irene Florence Downs, Arthur Downs, John William Downs, and Norman Edwin Downs. Alice Fisher married Siddon Henry Fisher in 1930, and died at age 81 years old on November 20, 1984 in Prahran.

In 1937, at the age of 34 years old, Alice was alive when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
