    Alice Pleasance (Liddell) Hargreaves is believed by some to be the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Regardless of whether or not Lewis developed the story based on Alice, he definitely told her the Alice in Wonderland story during a boating trip prior to the book being written. Alice was the fourth of the ten children of Henry Liddell and Lorina Hanna (Reeve) Liddell.

Alice Hargreaves, born Alice Liddell, most famous for her role in inspiring Charles Dodgson aka "Lewis Carroll" to write Alice in Wonderland, lived from 1852 until 1934. This photo was taken two years before Alice's death.

Interesting fact, Alice sold her copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, originally known as Alice's Adventures Under Ground, for 15,400 pounds at a Sotheby's auction.

Alice Liddell- Lewis Carroll's Inspiration
Photo of a young Alice Liddell (1852 - 1934) dressed up as a beggar. Of course, Alice Liddell lived a wealthy life as one of four children born to Henry Liddell, Dean of Christ Church in Oxford, and Lorina Hanna Reeve Liddell.

Much controversy surrounds how much Lewis Carroll actually developed the character Alice from "Alice in Wonderland" based on Alice Liddell. However, it is certain, that Alice Liddle played a key role in getting Charles Dodgson, aka Lewis Carroll, to create the story.
